PUNE: A case has been registered against MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s son Amit Thackeray and 20 to 25 others for allegedly removing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph from a government polytechnic institute in Pune, police said on Monday.The case was registered by Chatushrungi police for alleged criminal trespass, unlawful assembly and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The incident took place during Amit’s visit to various educational institutions in Pune as part of a student outreach programme.Amit had visited the Government Polytechnic Institute on Ganeshkhind Road to meet the principal and discuss issues concerning students.While he was interacting with the principal, some of his supporters pointed out the photograph of PM Modi installed in the principal’s room.Amit reportedly objected to the photograph being placed next to that of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and asked his supporters to remove it.MNS supporters subsequently removed the photograph from the wall, triggering criticism from the BJP.The photograph of Modi was installed alongside those of President Droupadi Murmu and Dr BR Ambedkar, according to the earlier account of the incident.PMC Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar had criticised the action, saying photographs of the President and Prime Minister are installed in government establishments as per protocol.“The Prime Minister does not belong to any party, which the protesters should know. We protest the action,” Bidkar said.Following the registration of the case, Amit responded to the development while speaking to the media.“The first case registered against me was regarding the incident related to Shivaji Maharaj and if the second case is also registered, it will again be in connection with Shivaji Maharaj and I will be happy for it,” he said.Police are investigating the incident and the role of those named in the case.
