SHRC officials start probe into minors’ parade at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station

Bharati Vidyapeeth police personnel allegedly paraded three minors after detention

Pune: Officials of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Wednesday morning reached the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station to start probing the alleged parade of three minor detainees on July 21.The three minors had been detained for hacking a 17-year-old boy to death on the night of July 20. The policemen, however, detained them and allegedly tied them to the bonnet of a police vehicle before parading them.A video of the incident was uploaded on the internet and widely shared on various social media platforms. Later, a woman, who was the mother of the deceased, was seen beating up the three minor boys.A senior SHRC official said, “A team headed by an inspector general was constituted following the High Court’s order.”“The team from Mumbai reached Pune. We examined the CCTV footage from the cameras installed in the area. We have recorded the statements of police personnel, especially those who detained the boys and brought them to the police station,” a senior team member told TOI.“We would study the statements and ascertain who ordered the parade and on whose orders the boys were tied to the police vehicle,” the officer said. The detained minors and the deceased, all of whom were school dropouts, had been rivals for the past few months, police said. According to the police, the deceased also had several offences registered against him and was harassing the detained boys. The detained boys allegedly conspired to eliminate him and, on July 20, spotted him near Katraj Lake and assaulted him to death with sharp weapons.
