Homeless man kills landlord at meditation centre, walks into police station

Pune: A 49-year-old landowner was allegedly stabbed to death by a homeless man following a dispute over the latter’s alleged stalking of a woman associated with a women’s meditation centre in Baner around 11.30am on Thursday.After the attack, the suspect walked into the Chatushrungi police station, from where he was handed over to the Baner police for further legal action.The deceased was identified as Ghanshyam Sanjay Raikar, a resident of Baner. The suspect, Solomon Shendge (49), was arrested later in the day.According to the police, Raikar owned the land where the incident occurred and had established the meditation centre on the property about 25 years ago. Shendge, who is divorced, had reportedly been moving from one city to another.Police said Shendge had allegedly been stalking and harassing a woman associated with the meditation centre for the past year.“On Thursday morning, Shendge arrived at the centre carrying a knife. He got into an argument with Raikar over the issue and, during the altercation, pulled out the weapon,” an officer from Baner police said,“Raikar tried to flee, but Shendge allegedly chased him and stabbed him multiple times. Raikar collapsed on the spot,” he added.Shendge left the scene after the attack and walked into the Chatushrungi police station, the police said.
