Corporators rake up half-done DP roads, demand completion for easier commute

Pune: Incomplete development plan roads, encompassing 700km, are making daily commuters face epic traffic snarls and congestion. The revelation on incomplete roads from the administration came at PMC’s general body meeting on Tuesday when many corporators raised concerns over pending road projects from their areas hampering overall traffic. The authorities said that most development plan (DP) projects are waiting for land parcels to become available and there were delays in getting them. Rajabhau Laigude, a corporator from Sinhagad Road area, said that his area’s residents face huge problems in their daily commute due to the incomplete DP road in Dhayari’s Savitri Garden area.Laigude said that the road has been pending for six years, and despite repeated meetings and discussions the issue has not been resolved. Corporators from other areas joined Laigude claiming that similar issues were being faced in their localities where DP road links are incomplete.Corporators from Balewadi areas said that Baner-Pashan link road is still complete and a road in Kaspate Wasti area is yet to be ready. Dilip Wede Patil, who represents Chandni Chowk area, said that a DP road link is not complete due to lack of land parcels and road users travel via longer routes, adding to inconvenience. The demand to complete pending DP roads is not new. Merged areas’ redidents have been pressing for full development of these roads for four years after they were brought into PMC. Anup Ghule, a resident of Manjari area, said completion of DP roads was among the basic demands, citizens from merged areas raised soon after they joined PMC in 2021. Sadly, road development works are on a slow track, he added.Corporator Punit Joshi said the administration should compulsorily acquire land for road projects and not sanction construction projects of land owners who do not cooperate in such acquisition and deliberately halt development.Municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said that around 700km DP roads are not fully developed. “The administration is working towards their completion and Rs 450 crore has been allotted in the current fiscal. A road in Dhayari area will be developed after compulsory land acquisition and Rs 180 crore will be set aside for building the road,” Ram added.Mayor Manjusha Nagpure told the administration to move ahead with land acquisition and complete all DP roads on priority.
