230 overseas students get Maha open school results in Marathi language

Pune: Maharashtra State Open Schooling Board on Tuesday declared the results of its first batch of overseas students who appeared for Std VII and Std VIII Marathi language assessment, marking the first major outcome of an agreement aimed at helping children of non-resident Indian Marathi families to continue learning the language. The results of 230 students were available online on the board’s website. The students are from 60 Marathi schools and centres in Canada, Denmark and the US and had enrolled with the board for the academic year 2025-26.The board’s secretary Deepak Mali said, “The initiative follows an agreement between the board, North America Maharashtra Mandal and the state education department to provide Marathi education to children of non-resident Indian Marathi families.”According to the board, Marathi textbooks published by Balbharati were used to complete the students’ syllabus before they appeared for the assessment. The board said the programme was designed to provide an opportunity for children living abroad to remain connected with Marathi language education through a recognised system.Students can download and print their subject-wise result information from the board’s website. Those who meet the academic and subject-related criteria may also receive certificates recognising their educational qualification and subject proficiency. The results assume significance as the open schooling board has extended its assessment framework beyond students studying in Maharashtra into overseas learning centres.Officials said the initiative could provide a formal pathway for Marathi learning among children growing up outside India while allowing them to study the language through the state’s open schooling system.
